| Welcome to the Social TAG Team |
| |
|
Established August 2007, courtesy of - infamously - one two many G&T's, the Social TAG team now boasts 20 members and has gone from strength to strength.
As a means of facilitating fun, friendship and fitness all within a challenging, non-contact, rugby environment there appears to be little to compete with this exciting opportunity.
With no age limit (although we encourage a minimum age of 16yrs old) many of our team have come from the following backgrounds...
...as housewives, mothers and professional career women
...having never played/even thought about playing rugby before
...having not/never played an active team sport in 5, 10 or even 20years
...retired players
...through no direct association with Camp Hill Rugby Club
What is so special about this team though is that they have such a lot of fun in both an informative and supportive environment. Head Coach Jo Kilby explains: "you don't need to be physically fit or a rugby afficionado to feel right at home within a couple of sessions...everything we do revolves around having a laugh, concealed fitness and simple balls skills, so its not difficult to pick up but challenging and rewarding in return."
But don't just take our word for it, read the below testimonies and if you're thinking you'd like to try something new...what are you waiting for?

"I used to play rugby when I was younger, but after having children I didn't want to do full contact rugby again...I found out about TAG rugby and have enjoyed training and playing once again." Emma, 28.

"When I was initially asked to come along to the weekly sessions I did wonder what I was letting myself in for....I'm not a fan of the gym so was looking for an alternative way of keeping fit without it being too laborious and the last time I took part in team sports was at school (many moons ago)! I did find it tough at first, however as weeks and months have gone by my fitness level has really improved & I feel so much better for it.
The rest of the team are a great bunch of girls, we don't take ourselves too seriously but just want to stay in shape whilst having fun at the same time. Its a fab way of keeping fit, and we have plenty of laughs along the way." Fiona, 38.

"Just wanna say that the last 8 months or so have been fab - apart from the badly needed exercise I haven't laughed sooooooooooo flippin much in a long time. On top of that, the fact that we are the age we are and we won our first match is little short of amazing. I'M LOVIN' IT!!!!!!" Tracey, 42.

"What started out as three mom's trying to get some fun & fitness time has developed into so much more! I had never played rugby before but through great coaching and the support of an amazing team I am thinner, fitter and more confident then ever before. I hadn't run for a bus in nearly 20 years when I started and worried that I wouldn't be physically able to keep up because of my past knee injuries, how wrong I was! Playing rugby has given me a zest for sport that I have never had before, I am physically stronger than I thought was possible. I have made some wonderful friends and the ladies are a great laugh, we have so much fun you don't realise that you are actually exercising, it's awesome, and I never thought I would be described as somebody who was capable of completing 'a magnetic run!' The club and WAGS have become part of my family and our talented Coach always leaves us hungry to learn more, I look forward to every session no matter what the weather! Anyone can play rugby they just don't know it yet!" Danne, 34.

"At 40, I thought my playing days were over but the TAG team has given me a new lease of life...great fun and a great way to excercise that fits in with family life (and 3 kids)! The team has a real sense of camaraderie and with all abilities catered for we don't take ourselves too seriously" Colette, 40.

"What can I say other than, how glad I am that Danne, Annie and myself got drunk enough to agree to try and get this off the ground! What started out as a bit of a joke with the guys of the club, has turned into something so good, and we have such a laugh! If anyone is even remotely entertaining the idea of giving us a try, then all I can say is, it will be one of the best things you do, the more the merrier, and anyone brave enough to take us on for a game, we're waiting!!" Gina.
"I've never succeeded in any sport in my life! I've never had the confidence to play any team sport. The coaches have all been so supportive, have built my confidence and have given me some self belief. Today [winning first competitive TAG game] was one of the best achievements in my life, and I am so proud. Thank you." Annie, 43.
